Kinney Frelinghuysen grew up in the town of Princeton, New Jersey. He graduated from Bowdoin College and the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France in 1983 from the studio of French painter, Claude Augerau, whose abstract gestural painting style was called "peinture Americaine".

Frelinghuysen is the Director of the Frelinghuysen Morris House and Studio in Lenox, (wwwfrelinghuysen.org). It is an International-style house with an exquisite collection of European and American Cubist Art. It is the former home of his aunt and uncle, Suzy Frelinghuysen and George L.K. Morris, who were among the founders of the American Abstract Artists in 1930's. Frelinghuysen succeeded in opening the doors to the public in l998, fulfilling their mission of educating the public about abstract art.

Kinney showed at the David Finlay Jr. Galleries, E. 57th Street in New York City last year, and had several shows at the Salander O'Reilly Gallery in NYC in the past 15 years. His work was collected by the late Malcolm Forbes and art critics Hilton Kramer and Roger Kimball, among other private collectors.

July 2nd, Kinney opens a one man show at the Sanford Smith Gallery on Railroad Street in Great Barrington, MA.
